jewelry Designs by Dj

Doris J. Berton ("Dj") always returned from hikes in various parts of the country with a bag full of interesting rocks. To her, stones have always been awe-inspiring since they represent the forces that created the earth. She first became interested in using them to make jewelry while working as a volunteer at a local charity thrift shop in Simsbury, CT. People were contributing old, unusable pieces and she found that with some clever repairs and modifications, she could combine the old pieces with the new to create striking, desirable jewelry.

A course at the Gemological Institute of America honed her talent. Constant study of jewelry periodicals and fashion magazines help her keep up with the newest trends. Combining more than 10 years of experience with her innovative ideas produces outstanding results. Her creations were exhibited at the Local Artists series at the Burlington Library.

Many clients visit her workroom and enjoy collaborating with her to select particular stones and styles, so the result is not only unique, but exactly fits the taste and needs of the wearer. In her new creations, she mainly uses sterling silver and gold-filled metals with semi-precious beads, cabochons, and faceted stones. Typical materials include topaz, onyx, amethyst, lapis lazuli, turquoise, and a variety of one-of-a-kind glass or crystal beads.

Dj guarantees her work. She can also repair a damaged item, alter the length, modify a clasp or an earring attachment to suit the needs of the wearer. Of course, restringing/reknotting pearls or other beads is one of her specialties.

Most of her business comes from recommendations from satisfied customers. She also has this website on which people can see examples of her work.

Doris lives in Burlington, CT and is a member of the Bristol Chamber of Commerce.
